Appliances used on ALF principles

In ALF Therapy, not only ALF appliances
but several kinds of orthodontic appliances are used on the same principle.

From ALF appliances, conventional braces and clear aligners,
we choose the one that suits your teeth and body now
and use a small force suited to your situation, only as much as is truly needed.

Appliances used on ALF principles
When choosing an appliance,
OHALF Dental Clinic looks at these four things.
  • 1
Centered on the teeth that must move,
use only the force truly needed
  • 2
Use it with an eye on the bone,
gums and muscles around the teeth
  • 3
    After applying force,
    adjust as the body responds
  • 4
Even if the conditions above are met,
if it is a problem for the person as a whole,
    do not recommend it

The appliances differ,
but the principle is the same

  • Finishing orthodontics

After ALF has set the broad direction of the jaws and dental arches,
finishing orthodontics, which refines the position of each tooth,
    is often needed.

At this stage, conventional braces or clear aligners are used as well.

More than 15 years with ALF Therapy

I have learned a great deal from seminars and study.
But now I learn even more from the patients who come back,
through the treatments I gave them.

    When a treatment has held up well, I am glad it has;
when it has not, I think about why
    and reflect on it…

The moment I chose, rather than to be the best in the world,
to become “the best me” every day,
    each and every patient
became a colleague, a junior and a teacher living through these times with me.

When parents I once treated with orthodontics
come in holding their child’s hand for an orthodontic consultation,
    part of me is glad,
but thinking of the child who needs orthodontics,
    part of me is sad.

  • Treatment process
In a consultation with Dr. Oh, we identify problems with the teeth and the body as a whole, then check whether orthodontic treatment fits your goals. The treatment method is chosen and decided together with you.

After that, you visit for orthodontic checks every 4 to 8 weeks on average. A CT scan is taken as standard before and after treatment to compare the changes.

The length of treatment depends on your situation and treatment goals, but averages around 3 years.
  • Who it is for
OHALF Dental Clinic values teeth in harmony with the body as much as teeth in harmony with the face.

We recommend it for people who are in or have finished ALF Therapy and need the position of each tooth refined. We also recommend it for people whose body is well aligned, whose upper and lower jaws do not differ greatly and who want to refine the alignment of their teeth.
  • Please note
    · Orthodontics moves teeth to new positions, so it does not change the shape of the teeth.
    · Aiming only for straight teeth can bring a number of limits and problems.
  • Side effects
Orthodontics arranges the teeth within the relationship between the face and the teeth, so if problems in the body are not resolved, the results of treatment may be more limited.

So it is advisable to set goals together after a thorough discussion with Dr. Oh, talk the drawbacks through fully and then decide on treatment.
